After the Pakistan Pediatric Association came into existence, the founding fathers felt the need for a scientific journal of the new association. Soon thereafter, the Pakistan Pediatric Journal was launched. The PPJ has thus been published since the year 1977. A number of very distinguished pediatricians have, through hard work and dedication, brought it to the status it enjoys today. Over a period of time, the range of the contents of the journal has shown improvements as has the pool of contributors. This has not only included scientists from within the country but also from neighboring countries. In this connection, mention must be made of the dedication and commitment of the late Professor Said-ul-Haq who persisted in his efforts to keep the journal going despite all kinds of constraints. The guidance of senior teachers, specially Professor S M Hanif has provided the kind of support that all editors cherish. In recent times, Professor Muhammad Ashraf Sultan has most recently put in all efforts to help raise the standard of the journal both in terms of what is being published but also in getting it approved and acknowledged. The membership of the PPA has in its last biennial moot in Islamabad, decided to entrust the editorship of the PPJ to Professor Humayun Iqbal Khan and myself. Both of us are aware that this is a great responsibility, especially when it has come with the mandate to make changes to the journal in keeping with the times. This implies further improvements in the quality of the articles being published, the general getup and ensuring improved circulation. These expectations are not unreasonable and essential to keep abreast of the advancements in the rest of the world but shall require collaboration and cooperation of the general membership as well as the leaders in the field of Pediatrics, both from within and outside the country. There is no dearth of talented Pakistani pediatricians and we are fairly confident that we can accomplish the desired result with a little diligence. Professor Humayun Iqbal Khan, (who has already been involved with the journal) and myself thus begin this task by assuring the membership of our most ardent efforts towards achieving the goals expected from us, but would like to remind our colleagues that this can only be made possible with your active participation and constructive feedback. Wishing you all a very happy new year.
