During past couple of decades, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
Coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome
Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) – the two human coronaviruses (HCoVs),
emerged as highly pathogenic microbes causing widespread concerns.
World Health Organization has declared the current pandemic caused
by the highly contagious SARS-CoV-2 a global public health
emergency. There is evolving understanding and knowledge regarding
COVID-19 in children. Based on the current available literature, this
review article summarizes the etiology, epidemiology, clinical features,
diagnosis, management and prevention of COVID-19 in children, along
with implications of the pandemic on child health. This will help the
Pediatricians and general practitioners to understand and effectively
deal with this pandemic in children.
