Objective: The objectives of the study were to determine the frequency of intraventricular hemmorrahge (IVH) in preterm neonates and to find out the short term outcome of IVH in preterm neonates. Study Design: Descriptive case series. Place and Duration of Study: The study was conducted at neonatology unit of the Children’s Hospital Lahore which is a tertiary care hospital, Lahore, over a period of 6 months. Material and Methods: A total of 210 preterm babies were enrolled in study fulfilling inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: In our study, 63.81% (n=134) cases were between 1-15 days, while 36.19% (n=76) were between 16-28 of life, mean + sd was 13.55 + 8.02 days. 53.33% (n=112) were male. Frequency of IVH in preterm neonates was 22.38% (n=47) while 77.62% (n=163) had no findings of IVH. While out of 47 cases, 57.45% (n=27) had hydrocephalus, 29.79% (n=14) had periventricular leukomalacia and only 12.76% (n=6) deaths were recorded. Conclusion: We concluded that the frequency of IVH among preterm neonates is considerably higher but not significant and in agreement with other studies while the short term outcome of IVH in preterm neonates shows significant cases of hydrocephalus and periventricular leukomalacia.
